STEVE Burr insists his Kidderminster Harriers will be inspired, rather than frightened, by playing in front of what could be the biggest non-League crowd of the season tomorrow.
In-form Harriers head to Luton Town in the Blue Square Bet Premier match of the day in a clash which puts third versus fifth.
The Hatters, non-League’s best supported club, have averaged 6,376 fans for home games and tomorrow’s showpiece could beat the best-of-season tally of 7,283 when they played AFC Wimbledon in September.
Harriers boss Burr admits it will be a new experience for some of his young squad, but has no doubts they can cope.
“It’s a big game because we are playing the biggest club, by a mile, outside the Football League,” said Burr.
“It’s not every week you can play in front of 7,000 fans. It will probably be the biggest crowd a lot of the players have played in front of but it’s the sort of game you want to be involved in.
“We won’t be daunted by going to Luton, that’s for sure. We’ve been on a good run and we deserve to be where we are in the table.”
Harriers will await fitness checks on skipper Keith Briggs and defender Tom Sharpe after they needed stitches in foot and knee wounds against Wrexham last week.
Lee Vaughan can return but Jack Byrne sits out the second of his four-match ban.
n Defender Tom Marshall has been told he has a future at Tamworth, despite being placed on the transfer list.
The former Hednesford Town and Eastwood Town centre-back has been made available in the wake of last weekend’s horror show against Forest Green Rovers and was left out of Wednesday night’s excellent win against Kettering Town with Dwayne Courtney partnering Michael Wylde.
Boss Des Lyttle had clear-the-air talks with the player yesterday but he hopes transfer-listing the former captain will be a ‘‘kick up the backside’’.
“He is still available for selection but if he stays he knows he has got to fight for his place,” said Lyttle.
The Lambs will look to repeat the midweek display tomorrow when they welcome Mansfield Town to the Lamb. Striker Aaron Farrell is the only absentee with a hamstring niggle.
“Wednesday’s win, and the way we played, was the response we were looking for after the Forest Green game,” said Lyttle. “We need to hit that standard every week.”
