KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have been dealt a double blow ahead of tonight’s showdown with title favourites Crawley Town with injuries to Keith Briggs and Sean Canham.
Skipper Briggs will be ruled out of the Aggborough clash after pulling his hamstring in Saturday’s draw at Luton Town, while on-loan forward Canham is a major doubt after suffering an Achilles injury in the final five minutes against the Hatters.
With Jack Byrne serving the third match of his four-game ban, Harriers boss Steve Burr admits it will be a blow to lose two key players against a Crawley side that can go to the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table with a draw.
“It’s going to be a tough contest and ideally you want all your players available,” said Burr.
“But it gives the other lads the chance. Whenever we’ve done that this season, the players coming in have performed.”
Top scorer Kyle Perry is Tamworth’s main injury worry as they look to upset another high-flying team with a trip to Luton.
Striker Perry, who missed training yesterday, will need a fitness test after getting a whack on his ankle in Saturday’s lacklustre defeat to Mansfield.
Aaron Farrell is progressing, but the match at third-placed Luton is set to come too soon after his hamstring problem.
Lambs boss Des Lyttle will be seeking a positive response after the weekend defeat.
“We are up and down and that’s worrying for me and for the players,” said Lyttle.
“Going to Luton is a great opportunity to bounce back. These are the games – playing in front of 5-6,000 – that should really inspire the lads.”
