Solihull Moors set to complete work needed to take part in play-offs

SOLIHULL Moors chairman Nigel Collins said he fully expected the necessary groundwork to be completed so they could take their place in the Blue Square Bet North play-offs.

Surprise promotion contenders Solihull need to add another 250 seats to their Damson Park ground to meet the required standard to be eligible for the end-of-season shoot-out, should they finish the season in the top five.

But Collins said the club had the seats ready to be installed into the car park stand at the ground within the next few weeks. The deadline for work to be completed is April 1. Collins said: “We’ve bought 250 seats from the same company that manufactured the seats for the new Edgbaston stand and we’re ready to install them.

“Because we’ve already got the stand, the council has told me we don’t need planning permission to put the seats in”

Moors stressed they were not counting any chickens after climbing to fifth place – the highest position in the club’s history – but needed to make sure they were prepared for the ‘best-case scenario’. Longer-term, there are proposals for an 800-seat stand opposite the current main stand. Ground-sharers Birmingham & Solihull Bees Rugby Club want to move their stand from Sharmans Cross Road to Damson Park but are awaiting planning permission.

Fifth-placed Moors were looking to extend an unbeaten 16-match run today when they visited Corby Town.

Moors rattled up their biggest ever win, 7-2, when Corby visited last month for a match which was a fitting send-off following the death of manager Bob Faulkner.
