CHASETOWN did not need to enter the transfer market to welcome an array of “new signings”.
With the treatment room at the Scholars gradually emptying after a nightmare few months of injuries, Charlie Blakemore’s men say the return of the likes of Dean Perrow, Dave Egan, Jack Farmer, Gavin Saunders and Chris Peel will be most timely.
Saunders has already made his comeback in the reserves while Farmer had a run-out with the youth team in midweek. Egan, Perrow, and Peel are also set to make returns within the next ten days.
Egan was due to have the plaster removed from his broken wrist yesterday, and while today’s home clash with Stocksbridge PS might be too early for action the midfielder should be in contention for the trip to Mickleover Sports on Wednesday.
“They are all like new signings,” said assistant boss Andy Cox. “We will need to get them back up to speed but it’s great news.”
He added: “We’ve achieved what we set out to do at the start of the season which was to make sure we are playing Step Three football next season.”
n ROMULUS manager Richard Evans insists there’s not much wrong with his side’s recent performances, apart from failing to take their chances.
The Roms showed their spirit with a 1-1 draw against Sutton Coldfield on Monday but they have won just once in the last eight games.
It’s a run that Evans admits has wrecked their play-off hopes in their debut season in the Evo-Stik Division One South.
“We’ve played well in all the games that we have lost, and apart from Kidsgrove, we have lost by the odd goal,” said Evans.
“We’ve created the chances but you probably don’t deserve to win if you miss the sitters like we did on Saturday against Brigg. My missus, Bev, could have finished with a hat-trick – they were that easy.
“I was thinking of getting Bev on a form but we couldn’t afford her, and we certainly couldn’t afford Jimmy Choo designer football boots for her!”
The Roms head to Stamford today with a full squad but they will be without Richard Robinson and Phil Male who both start suspensions for Tuesday’s match away to Newcastle after their red cards against Carlton.
