TAMWORTH manager Des Lyttle is delighted to see new strike duo Jason Bradley and Aaron Farrell make up for lost time by spearheading their survival fight.
Lyttle praised the two strikers’ performance in the midweek draw against Wrexham and hopes they will provide the cutting edge to get the wins to secure the Lambs’ status in non-league’s top tier.
Both Bradley, signed from Brackley in January, and ex-Sutton Coldfield and kidderminster Harriers forward Farrell, signed from Romulus, have had stop-start seasons but they looked a useful double act against Dean Saunders’ promotion-seeking Wrexham.
Lyttle said: “I thought they caused Wrexham all sorts of problems. Jason got his goal and held the ball up well and Aaron’s pace really had them worried.
“They have given us something different. We can knock the ball over the top for Aaron and we’ve got Jason to hold the ball. We like to play good football but we’ve also got the option to get behind and turn the defence.”
Despite Bradley’s goal, the Lambs had to settle for a 1-1 draw, which keeps them four points above the bottom four. But it was honours shared between Lyttle and Wrexham boss Dean Saunders, who were team-mates at Nottingham Forest and remain close pals.
“I think we were unlucky not to win and I think Dean would admit that,” said Lyttle. “When you are 1-0 up and there’s 80 minutes played you’re disappointed not to win and even after they equalised we could have scored again. But with the comeback draw at Grimsby and a point against Wrexham, who are fourth, it should really lift the lads’ confidence.”
Tamworth will certainly need to be positive today when they head to another promotion-seeking side Fleetwood Town.
