Micky Moore backs Solihull Moors to bounce back after record-equalling run comes to end

MICKY Moore admits Solihull Moors’ record-equalling unbeaten run has raised the bar to new heights.

But he has challenged his side to keep elevating their standards to create more history by booking a play-off place in the Blue Square Bet North.

Having equalled Southport’s league-best 18-match unbeaten run last weekend by beating Boston, Solihull then suffered their first defeat since November when title favourites Alfreton Town won 2-0 on Monday. Assistant manager Moore had no complaints and insisted the Moors, currently in fifth place, still have plenty to play for.

“We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves – we lost one game of football but we have had a fantastic run,” said Moore. “We’ve raised the bar but it’s important we keep improving.

"We’ve got the chance to get the club into the play-offs for the first time. But we also know there’s a lot of football still to be played.”

Next on the list will be another testing away fixture today, this time to Yorkshire side Guiseley, who lie seven points behind the fifth-placed Moors, but with two games in hand.

n RELEGATED Redditch United have been challenged to use the final six matches of their stay in Blue Square Bet North to lay down the foundations for next season.

Manager Simon Redhead says it is important the Reds, who have been cemented to the foot of the table for all of the season, chalk up some wins to take a positive feeling into the summer.

Today the Reds visit Vauxhall Motors but then four of their final five games are on home soil. They meet Solihull on Tuesday at the Valley Stadium followed by Eastwood Town, and Guiseley and then Corby Town on the final day of the season on Easter Monday, April 25.

“We’re looking towards next season now,” said Redhead. “It’s important to get some wins from the last six games.”
