MICKY Moore says Solihull Moors are determined to upset the odds after admitting they are the outsiders in the race for the play-offs.
Moore says only a win will do in today’s fixture at home to Hinckley United if the Moors are to have any chance of snatching a play-off place.
While fifth-placed Eastwood Town are ineligible for the end-of-season shoot-out after their appeal over ground grading was dismissed, Moore suggests the battle for two play-off places behind AFC Telford United and Boston United will be between Nuneaton Town, Guiseley and Solihull.
Moors are seven points behind Town with a game in hand and four behind Guiseley but Moore says it is still all to play for.
On Monday, Nuneaton play Boston with a 1pm kick-off so Moors will have an idea about their play-off fate before they get under way at Eastwood. Eastwood then round off the season against Guiseley next Saturday, while Moors entertain Gainsborough and Nuneaton visit Alfreton.
“We are the outsiders and we know that,” said Moore. “But the good thing is that we’ve got two of our three games at home and we have been very strong at home. That gives us a bit more belief that we can do it.”
Moore, however, stressed they will certainly not underestimate Dean Thomas’s Hinckley today.
“On their day they can cause any team in the league problems,” he said.
■ Chasetown have vowed to learn from their first-ever season in non-League’s third tier.
The Scholars’ hopes of gatecrashing the Evo-Stik Premier play-offs were effectively ended by their midweek defeat to Worksop, which left them eighth in the table, six points behind fifth-placed Buxton with two games to play.
“Losing to Worksop was desperately disappointing,” said assistant boss Andy Cox, who was in charge with Charlie Blakemore away.
“But after sleeping on it I realise you have to look at the bigger picture.
“If you had said at the start of the season we would get to 63 points and have the chance of finishing halfway we would have snapped your hand off.”
Dave Egan and Chris Slater are both fitness doubts today with hamstring injuries, while Ben Jevons (work), Ryan Price (wedding) and Darren Acton (broken finger) are all missing.
