Solihull Moors let lead slip to lose at Eastwood Town

SOLIHULL Moors’ end-of-season woes continued with a 2-1 defeat at Eastwood Town in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

It was a seventh game without a win for seventh-placed Moors, who had begun brightly and taken the lead against the Badgers.

A sweeping move led to Emeka Omwubiko and Ross Dempster setting up Simon Johnson to slot home on 11 minutes.

But Eastwood, who cannot take a play-off place because of their ground, equalised on 36 minutes when Lindon Meikle tucked home the rebound after Moors keeper Jas Singh saved a penalty.

Lee Stevenson then netted the winner via the post four minutes before half-time.

Relegated Redditch United again conceded a late goal to ruin their chances of a first league win since October.

Bottom of the table Reds twice led against Corby Town but had to settle for a 2-2 draw at the Valley Stadium.

Josh McKenzie put them ahead on 23 minutes only for Paul Malone to level six minutes later.

McKenzie fired the Reds back in front on 66 minutes but Troy Johnston made it 2-2 ten minutes from time.

n Stourbridge twice led at Leamington, only to concede two goals in the final 15 minutes to lose 3-2 in the Zamaretto Premier.

Nathan Bennett headed home a Drew Canavan corner to give the Glassboys the lead on eight minutes but the Brakes levelled on the hour when Luke Corbett pulled back the ball for Jamie Sheldon to control and score.

Paul McCone restored the visitors’ lead on 71 minutes, finding himself unmarked to head home a corner.

But the advantage only lasted four minutes before Richard Batchelor sent keeper Lewis Solly the wrong way from a penalty after Corbett had been tripped and Leamington, who will visit Hednesford Town in the play-off semi-final on Thursday, snatched the winner five minutes from time through Corbett.

Halesowen Town bowed out of the Zamaretto Premier with a 6-0 drubbing from a Hednesford side which clinched the runners-up spot.

The Pitmen always looked the more threatening and Marvin Robinson put them 2-0 after half an hour up with a header and an overhead kick.

Chris Clements fired home from 20 yards following a one-two with Robinson on the hour before the latter completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Kyle Patterson had been fouled 13 minutes later.

There was no let-up for the Yeltz as Hednesford grabbed two goals in the final eight minutes to complete their misery, Mark Smith diverting a Patterson cross into his own net for number five before substitute Nick Wellecome added a sixth.
