Non-league: Redditch United suffer defeat nine minutes into stoppage time

MARTIN Sockett was left shellshocked after watching Redditch United suffer their first defeat since he took over – thanks to a goal nine minutes into stoppage time.

The Reds boss questioned the amount of time the referee added to the 90 minutes as Banbury United won 1-0 at the Stadium.

After ten successive friendly wins and two wins and one draw in the first three matches of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier, Redditch endured a frustrating loss, compounded by playing the final five minutes with ten men.

Defender Tes Robinson had to be helped off with gashed head after colliding with team-mate Alex Hickman after the Reds had used all three subs.

Sockett said: “Where the ref got an extra five minutes from, I don’t know, and where he got ten minutes, I’m completely confused.

“It was a night of frustration, especially after we felt David Blenkinsopp had a shot over the line before the keeper scooped it back into play.

“I’d have settled for a 0-0, but it’s gone now and we will look to bounce back on Saturday.”

The Reds head to Bashley on Saturday, with Robinson joining Greg Ellard (stomach muscle) on the casualty list.
