Birmingham and Solihull Bees lock Alex Davidson hoping Coventry beat Moseley in RFU Championship relegation battle

BEES stalwart Alex Davidson isn’t quite ready to pull on a Coventry shirt but he’ll certainly be cheering for the Blue and Whites when they face Moseley tomorrow.

The experienced second-row believes a big Coventry win at Billesley Common is his team’s best chance of avoiding relegation from the Championship.

If Phil Maynard’s men can claim four points and deprive Moseley of any, that would confirm Coventry’s place in next year’s second tier and also plunge Moseley into a do-or-die battle with Bees in the final game of the season with just one point separating the local rivals.

And having beaten them already in the play offs, Bees’ 24-17 win at Sharmans Cross Road was their first anywhere for 11 months, Davidson is confident his team could go to Moseley and pull off a repeat performance. “The best result would be for Coventry to hammer Moseley and deny them a bonus point which leaves a straight contest between us and Moseley,” the 29-year-old said.

“Ideally it will be a big up front confrontational battle where two or three from either side will come out limping and slightly hurt.

“That would make my afternoon easier next week.”

But if Moseley win and deny Coventry anything that would leave Bees needing a five point victory against the Red and Blacks.

They would also be dependent on the outcome of the Coventry-Rotherham match which is a dead rubber for the Titans.
