A CHANGE of scenery as Birmingham & Solihull returned to Portway did the team the power of good with a huge defensive improvement contributing to a deserved win over Blaydon.

Bees restricted Blaydon to two tries and scored four themselves to earn a valuable bonus point as they seek to get away from the wrong end of the National One table.

Dan Hawkes ran the game for Bees with his half-back partner Warwick Lahmert making numerous breaks around the fringes.

The forwards competed well, although it did take a little time to find parity against a well-drilled Blaydon pack.

The visitors started both halves well and scored the opening try as their forwards rumbled over from a line-out catch and drive, flanker Rob Bell touching down.

Bees slowly took control of the match though and hit back when a Lahmert break sent Alex White went over in the corner for their opening try.

Their second try came it was the move of the match, Lowden starting a counter attack in his own half before feeding Lahmert who moved the ball on to Evans before Jack Pons squeezed in at the corner.

The third quarter was all Blaydon but Bees defence was excellent and they never looked likely to get across the line.

Instead Bees scored next, moving the ball quickly down the field to allow full-back Jon Lowden to score in the corner.

Blaydon fought back through a Chris Wearmouth try and a Tom Cattrick drop goal but Lowden scored again to seal the win.
