Earnshaw demands more ruthlessness from Bees

RUSSELL Earnshaw has warned his Bees team they need to be more ruthless – even though they broke four club records in their last match.

The Birmingham & Solihull player coach insists his side can play even better than they did in Saturday’s club best 80-point battering of Mounts Bay.

That was a game in which they scored 12 tries, won by 75 points and had ten Mark Woodrow conversions as the record books were re-written.

But as he prepares for tomorrow’s visit from lowly Southend, Earnshaw says Bees must not take their foot of the gas in games.

“We said at half-time that we wanted 100 points but we were not relentless enough,” Earnshaw said.

“There was a 20-minute period – ten of which were when Shaun Pammenter was in the sin bin – when we relaxed. It is something we must not do again.”

However, Earnshaw is taking nothing for granted against Southend who, he fears, could be difficult opponents.

“I have watched them on DVD a few times and I have a big concern that they are a good side, despite where they are in the league. But if we want to win this division we have got to beat Southend at home, there’s no two ways about it.”

Nevertheless, Earnshaw is sufficiently confident to make changes with Reece Spee and Scott Young afforded a well-earned break.

Ryan Tomlinson will take the No.13 shirt and will partner the returning Cameron Mitchell in midfield.

“We are not far away from where we want to be in attack, we need a little bit more accuracy at times but if we can get that we should be in a good position,” Earnshaw said.
