Moseley successful in chase for Chevvy

MOSELEY are set to announce their second signing in a week after the Championship outfit secured the services of openside Chevvy Pennycook.

The 22-year-old joins the club from Bristol having established a reputation as a promising openside in stints with Newbury and in the Guinness A league.

Pennycook represented England in the U20 Six Nations in 2007 and has been part of the Community Coaching programme at the Memorial Stadium.

As well as making 17 appearances for Blues in 2007-08, he came off the bench against Scarlets, Northampton and Leicester last term.

His arrival plugs the gap left by Richie Bignell, who opted to turn full-time with Coventry and follows that of Rob Thirlby who joined from Redruth earlier this week.

“He is another player who will add value to the squad and provide options and cover for a number of back-row positions,” said head coach Ian Smith.

“He comes highly rated with a great potential.”

Pennycook learned his rugby at Cleeve RFC having been educated at Mangotsfield Secondary and St Brendan’s Sixth Form. He joined Bristol as a member of the Junior National Academy and has also represented England at U18 and U19 levels.

He is an all-rounder, having been county champion in the 800metres, hurdles and cross country.
