Moseley RFC: Robson's England call up gives duo a shot

IAN Smith’s selection headache will be made a little easier this weekend by the unavailability of dual-registered starlet Dan Robson.

Just seven days after running Bees ragged, the 18-year-old has been named to start England Under-20s’ Six Nations opener against Wales in Llanelli tomorrow night.

That will keep the Gloucester wunderkind out of Moseley’s trip to Plymouth and allow Smith to revert to either Ryan De La Harpe or Gareth Taylor at scrum-half.

De La Harpe was surprisingly dropped to the bench for last weekend’s 42-16 derby victory and Taylor, one of the club’s most loyal servants, did not feature at all.

While there was some disquiet among supporters about that fact, Robson – who has only made two starts for Mose – soon silenced those doubts with a sparkling performance.

However, continuity of selection was sacrificed and Smith must now turn to one of his jilted duo at Brickfields for a match Moseley have to win if they are to retain even the slimmest hope of escaping the bottom four.

“It was not an easy decision at all,” Smith admitted. “Ryan has been playing very well, Gaz is Moseley through and through and has got some great qualities.

“We have seen Dan before and the players know what he can produce so we were confident he could come in and play very, very well – as he did.

“We have got great competition at scrum-half now with complementary qualities.

“Ryan will get some more game-time and there are a lot players on the periphery who have got to get some rugby and Gaz is definitely still part of our thinking.
