THE next generation of Moseley players take a step into the unknown on Sunday when they meet mystery outfit Redingensians in the semi-final of the National Colts Cup.
Simon Bartlett’s side, who are fighting on three fronts with trophies also to be claimed in the league and North Midlands Cup competitions, travel to Berkshire looking to emulate the Class of 2005 – the last Moseley team to reach the final of the prestigious knockout tournament.
But while Moseley have pedigree in the Colts Cup and were the inaugural winners in 1998, Redingensians are the proverbial dark horses.
“We don’t know anything at all about them,” admitted Bartlett, chairman of youth rugby.
“Their first team play at a similar level to Moseley Oak but the colts side seem to have come from nowhere. The rumblings coming out of Berkshire are that they think they are going to have us and while I don’t expect a hostile environment I also don’t expect the red carpets to be out either.
“We faced a similar thing against Leighton Buzzard last season, we got there and they had loads of supporters but we won that match.’’
