Stourbridge show promotion class

STOURBRIDGE produced their best performance of the season to underline their promotion ambitions - and dent those of Blackheath.

The 43-24 win lifted Stour to third, a point behind Launceston, and the faithful at Stourton Park will be hoping that the two home lapses against Halifax and Nuneaton earlier in the season will not come back to haunt them come May.

Winger Ally Bressington and Blackheath's Frankie Neale exchanged penalties before Bressington scored his 10th try of the season for a modest 8-3 lead at the break.

Whatever was in the half-time tea seemed to work, though, as Stour ripped the Londoners apart with four tries in 20 minutes by centre Marcus Cook, Bressington again and two from full-back Matt Williams.

Blackheath, who started the game second in the league, came back with three of their own through flanker James Kellard, a penalty try and hooker Alex Matera, but Stour had the last word when flanker Tom Jordan battered his way over for his fifth of the season.

Bressington converted all five second-half tries for a comprehensive victory.
