Halifax 15 Stourbridge 14

STOURBRIDGE suffered a setback in their pursuit of promotion from National Two after Halifax snatched victory with a late penalty.

The hosts scored an early pushover try through Carl Mortimer, which Greg Robson converted, but Stour then dominated proceedings for the remainder of the half.

They rejected several kickable penalties during this period, their only reward coming from a Tom Richardson try after the scrum-half scampered over from the base of a scrum, which Ali Bressington converted.

Halifax had more of a say in second-half exchanges and regained the lead when they spread the ball along their back division for winger Ben Mitchell to score.

Stour struck back with a pushover try of their own when No.8 Jim Jenner got the final touch.

Bressington's conversion put Stour 14-12 ahead, but Halifax had the last word when Robson rifled over a last-gasp penalty.
