Stourbridge 29 Wharfedale 26

THEY might have been whispering the 'P' word at Stourton Park at the start of the season, but promotion is now the watchword as Stourbridge won a game that seemed lost against their Yorkshire visitors to keep them on track for National One.

Stour appeared to be turning the first half into a lap of honour as they coasted to a 19-3 lead, but a penalty try for the visitors in injury time gave Wharfedale some hope.

It was hope they carried into the second half and within 10 minutes a penalty and a try had cut the lead to a point.

A try in the 65th minute put them ahead and it was looking bleak for the promotion hopefuls.

The sides traded penalties but Wharfedale still held a 26-22 lead as the match went into added time.

Stour dug deep and threw everything at the Yorkshiremen who finally succumbed with prop James Tideswell driving over deep in injury time to give his side victory. Alastair Bressington added the conversion.
