Cambridge 8 Stourbridge 6
STOURBRIDGE only had a losing bonus to show for their trip to big-spending Cambridge in a game which was dominated by a gale sweeping across the fens.
Stour won the toss and played against the wind in the first half and when Cambridge failed to capitalise on their advantage the visitors must have felt they were in with a chance.
The home side went ahead with a penalty after 14 minutes and trundled over for a driving-maul try in the corner but 8-0 was widely seen as hardly enough of a lead for what was expected to be an onslaught in the second half.
But the game after the break was much the same as before. Stour managed a penalty, landed by Ali Bressington, who repeated the feat five minutes later to set up a tense finish.
Stour though never managed to give their backs quick, clean ball and when they received their second yellow of the game, Ben Hughes following Simon Homer, the steam went out of their challenge.
