Birmingham League Division One - Harborne hit for six

HARBORNE have slipped back towards the drop zone after crashing to a six-wicket defeat at Cannock.

Although Stephen Moreton gave Harborne a promising start with the bat by making 53, his team-mates were soon reeling against the combined bowling attack of Matt Robinson, who took five for 40, and Mike Talbot, who weighed in with four for 44.

They reduced Harborne to 169 all out before Cannock raced to a winning 170 for four – with 12 overs to spare.

Chris Woodcock led the charge with 55 while Staffordshire’s David Womble finished on 33 not out.

Bromsgrove blew their chances of going top after suffering a four-wicket defeat at Shrewsbury, who leapfrog them into second spot.

With leaders Old Hill rained off at Sutton Coldfield, Bromsgrove failed to take advantage after being rolled over for 127.

It could have been a great deal worse but skipper Mark Evenson staged a rearguard action with 41 before becoming one of Tom Allin’s six victims as the Warwickshire prospect finished with six for 41.

Aussie Reece O’Connell claimed four for 25 with his left-arm spin.

O’Connell also supplied the top score in reply with 32 as Shrewsbury strolled home on 128 for six.

Another Aussie, Brian May, continues to enjoy a sublime summer with Stratford.

May made a magnificent 112 as Stratford reached 226 for eight.

It proved too much for opponents Coventry and North Warwicks, who clung to the draw by close on 94 for nine after Tom Best took five for 28.

The result keeps Coventry second from bottom spot, six points behind Halesowen who fell 32 runs short at Wellington.

Imran Ali and Matt Pardoe both picked up three wickets as Wellington reached a modest 158.

However, Mo Ishtiaq fought a lone battle in reply making 71 out of Halesowen’s 126 all out after Mark Downes destroyed the innings by taking five for 20.

Attock defeated Dorridge by 100 runs.

Former Derbyshire player Ruwait Khan led from the front, making 42 in Attock’s total of 194 all out after Abdul Hafeez had taken four wickets.

Dorridge were then dismissed for just 94, with Amjad Zaman finishing with four for 23.
