K&D beat Moseley to extend Birmingham League lead

LEADERS Knowle & Dorridge edged further away from the chasing pack following their 39-run victory over neighbours Moseley.

Nick James top-scored with 31 but the Station Road side looked vulnerable defending 186 all out, Fred Eburah (four for 48) and Usman Awan (four for 34) doing the damage with the ball.

But K&D’s Jacobus Pienaar took four for 25 to wrap up the win with Moseley managing just 147 all out.

Himley remain their nearest challengers after a low-scoring contest with visitors Walmley.

Chris Tranter was the star turn with a dazzling all-round display that saw him take five for 18 before notching an unbeaten 49.

Walmley had no answer to his pace as they crashed to 64 all out. The hosts hit their target with all wickets intact, opener Tranter unsurprisingly picking up the man-of-the-match award for his heroics.

While Moseley and Walmley are facing up to a relegation scrap, they will have been relieved to see basement boys Shrewsbury suffer another defeat, losing by six wickets at Kenilworth Wardens for whom Shitansu Kotak returned impressive figures of seven for 42.

Bromsgrove’s early-season worries seem behind them as they secured a five-wicket win at home to Worcestershire neighbours Kidderminster Victoria.

Ash Newdick (90) and Alexei Kervezee (64) led the way for the Premier Division new boys but it was Tom Green’s unbeaten 56 that guided them home.

Dougie Brown (61) top-scored for Barnt Green but hosts Leamington Spa secured a winning draw in their contest at Arlington Avenue.

Heavy rain brought Walsall’s match at Wolverhampton to a premature end early in Walsall’s innings as they chased their hosts’ 143 for eight.
