Solihull Blossomfield are new leaders of Warwickshire League
Jul 1 2009 by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail
SOLIHULL Blossomfield won their top two encounter at Bablake OB by five wickets to move to the summit – the third different leader in three weeks – and demote their beaten hosts to fifth place.
Solihull took 20 points from the clash to go eight clear at the top, although despite tumbling four places Bablake are still only 13 points off the pace.
Charlie Leonard was an all round success as he inspired Kenilworth to a victory which lifts them up to second in the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division.
The 87-run win moved them above Nuneaton who were the victims of Leonard’s brilliance with bat and ball as he hit 95 off 133 balls before boasting bowling figures of 4-33. Meanwhile, Kenilworth’s second team shared the spotlight when record breaker Matt Hone smashed the club’s previous best individual innings in their win over Ansley Sports.
Hone’s knock of 180 not out from just 106 balls eclipses the previous best of 161 set by Douglas Marillier in 1999. Hone was superbly assisted by Addie Sellar who also hit an unbeaten century.
Back with the Premier firsts and Lowly Pickwick P&M’s woes at the bottom of the table continued when they lost by six wickets to Atherstone Town.
