Birmingham League cricket preview

LEADERS Knowle & Dorridge head to basement boys Shrewsbury tomorrow looking for maximum points and some breathing space at the top of the table.

Skipper Jamie Spires (inset) saw his team struggle to overcome a stubborn Moseley side last week before some fine bowling from Jacobus Pienaar eased them to a 39-run victory. Against a Shrewsbury side struggling for runs – albeit on the Shropshire club’s home turf – K&D should have a far easier task this week.

The bowling of Fred Eburah and Usman Awan kept Moseley in the running against the table-toppers and the strike pair’s accuracy will again be vital tomorrow when they take on another of the in-form sides, Wolverhampton.

Two other clubs struggling at the wrong end of the table come face-to-face at Eldon Drive where Walmley take on Bromsgrove.

Walmley were blitzed by Himley seamer Chris Tranter last week and will face another tough test against Mark Evenson’s Bromsgrove who are looking for a third straight win as they continue their climb up the table.

Ash Newdick finally seems to be finding the runs for the Premier Division newcomers and he will be looking to carry on from last week when he was dismissed just short of his century at home to Kidderminster Victoria.

High-flyers Himley should have too much in the locker for an unpredictable Barnt Green outfit while Kidderminster play host to Leamington Spa.

The day’s other match sees reigning champions Walsall take on Scott Stenning’s Kenilworth Wardens at Gorway in what promises to be a vital game for both sides.
