Tim Ambrose returns for Warwickshire Pro40 crunch match

Tim Ambrose

WARWICKSHIRE welcome back wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose as they prepare to take on Glamorgan and Surrey in two crucial Pro40 League games.

The Bears face promotion rivals Glamorgan in Cardiff tomorow before returning to Edgbaston on Monday when they entertain Surrey.

Warwickshire have won two of their three Pro40 games to date and skipper Darren Maddy believes victory in both games would put the Bears in sight of promotion.

Maddy said: “We know we’re in good form but our past three County Championship games have been particularly frustrating because of the weather, which has prevented us from pressing home the advantage.

“If we can win two of the next four Pro40 games, it should be good enough to get us promoted.’’

Ambrose is added to the squad following his spell in England’s Test side against the South Africans, which means Tony Frost will feature as a batsman only.

The only other doubt remains with the formation of Warwickshire’s seam attack, Chris Martin, Chris Woakes and Boyd Rankine all coming into consideration.

With Warwickshire almost certain to include Neil Carter and Tim Groenewald, it means both Rakine and Jimmy Anyon could be the men to miss out.

IAN Westwood today pledged to build on the “great strides” that Warwickshire made under his predecessor as captain, Darren Maddy.

Westwood took over as skipper yesterday after Maddy resigned, ending just under two seasons at the helm. The 26-year-old, a product of the Edgbaston system from the age of ten, is looking forward to the considerable on- and off-field challenges of leadership. “It is a great honour and I am thoroughly excited,” Westwood said.
