Jimmy Anyon offered hope by Ashley Giles as he moves to Surrey on loan

ASHLEY Giles has revealed that Jimmy Anyon’s loan move to Surrey does not necessarily mean the end of the seamer’s Bears career.

The 26-year-old has moved to The Oval for a month after finding himself squeezed down the Bears’ bowling pecking order.

But there could still be a way back for the former Lancashire trainee, who has another season on his contract at Edgbaston, as the Bears turn their thoughts towards next season.

Anyon could stay. All-rounder Stef Piolet will stay, assuming he accepts the deal offered to him. But 23-year-old batsman Navdeep Poonia will go.

“The door is not closed on Jimmy,” said director of cricket Giles. “This is a great opportunity for him to go and hopefully play some first-class cricket. He is not going to get that with us at the moment so the loan is a fantastic idea.

“Navvy has been told his contract won’t be renewed but we will certainly offer Stefan a new contract. The challenge for Stefan is to improve his batting.”
