County Championship: Warwickshire left shell-shocked by Nottinghamshire

County Championship: Nottinghamshire: 328, Warwickshire: 121 & 152.
Nottinghamshire (22pts) beat Warwickshire (3pts) by an innings and 55 runs

VARUN Chopra, Boyd Rankin and Extras provided the high spots of another rather hard day at the coalface for Warwickshire.

The Bears were beaten by an innings and 55 runs by Nottinghamshire after losing 20 wickets on the second day. In a spectacular double collapse, in their first innings the last nine wickets fell for 68 runs in 29 overs then, in the second, the last nine tumbled for 64 in 24.

But hold on. “We’ll take the positives out of it” is a pillar of 21st century sportspeak. So let’s do that.

In the second innings, Chopra struck his maiden half-century for Warwickshire, a polished and determined 54. In the first, Rankin lodged a career-best 13 while Extras top-scored with a sturdy 22.

See? Positives. You only have to look!

In helpful bowling conditions against a strong attack, batting was tough. The Bears’ work in the first half of the day was, however, simply supine. Andre Adams delivered 52 balls and Paul Franks 41 before conceding a run. They bowled well but much of the resistance (the term used in its loosest sense) was poor and some of it was pathetic.
