Season goes pear-shaped for Worcestershire as floods hit New Road
WORCESTERSHIRE are unlikely to play at New Road again this season after their ground was flooded late on Saturday.
The county will make an announcement today when they are expected to confirm that Kidderminster will host their last two games, both against Middlesex, in the NatWest Pro40 League next Sunday and County Championship Division Two on September 17.
After last year’s flooding, which prevented any cricket at New Road after June, Worcestershire agreed a contingency plan for matches to be switched to Kidderminster at short notice.
Pears’ chief executive Mark Newton said: “Financially this is not desperate. The costs will run into tens of thousands of pounds but it’s nowhere near as bad as last season.’’
However, he did admit: “It’s been a pretty soul-destroying experience.’’
