Perth Glory quash Kevin Phillips transfer talk

PERTH Glory have backtracked and distanced themselves from a move for Blues’ Kevin Phillips.

Coach Dave Mitchell talked enthusiastically about the Australian A-League side’s interest in the veteran.

He went as far as saying that he hoped to set up a meeting with Phillips or his agent, with a view to a transfer.

But Blues took a dim view and have asked the FA to report Perth to FIFA for possible breach of regulations relating to inducement.

Phillips, 35, has another season on his Blues deal.

But Mitchell today said that no formal approach had been made for Phillips and Perth would abide by football’s rules and regulations.

“We regret any misunderstanding in this matter and can categorically say that Perth Glory has not made any contact with Kevin Phillips,” Mitchell insisted.

“Kevin is obviously a wonderful player and the kind of top-class professional we’d like at our club.
