Jaidi: One bullet left for Birmingham City
Apr 28 2009 by Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail
RADHI Jaidi says Blues are down to their final bullet – and must make it count.
A win is needed at Reading on Sunday in the last match of the regular Championship season to secure automatic promotion. Blues can get away with a draw as long as Sheffield United are held at Crystal Palace.
After fluffing it at St Andrew’s, where Preston North End won 2-1, there are no second chances.
“I think we have experienced players to take the responsibility,” said the big centre-half. “Everybody has to be responsible in training this week, on the pitch Sunday.
“And this is the last bullet we have. So I will bring it to the boss to load it in the gun and then we will play the game.”
Reading’s 2-0 defeat of Norwich City at Carrow Road last night was the result Blues just didn’t want.
It means the Royals now have a chance of going up too: victory over Blues and Sheffield doing no better than a draw at Selhurst Park, and the glory is theirs.
Blues have to rid themselves of the ‘what might have been’ thoughts from Saturday, and accept last night’s blow.
“What a chance, we lost it,” rued Jaidi.
“What I can say is that we still have one chance left. It’s a hard chance, but we need to take it. We don’t have any choice.
“We need to win the last game to go up otherwise it would be a catastrophe.”
“You know football is hard and chances come and go,” Jaidi added.
