Olsson: Why Mulumbu is key for West Bromwich Albion

JONAS Olsson believes Youssouf Mulumbu has made a huge difference to Albion’s chances of Premier League survival – not least as he has made them harder to beat.
The defensive midfielder has been arguably Albion’s strongest performer of the campaign so far, certainly one of the most unsung players in the team.
His efforts in front of the back four, alongside Paul Scharner, have made Roberto Di Matteo’s men stronger defensively.
Olsson concedes Albion could have done with Mulumbu two years ago when they were relegated due to a poor defensive showing and a somewhat brittle, lightweight midfield.
Back then Mulumbu only arrived in the January and was limited to a handful of appearances after suffering an injury.
Although his potential was obvious, it was not until Albion’s promotion campaign of last season that Mulumbu’s presence became more dominant.
And the former Paris Saint-Germain player has taken that form into this season.
Olsson told the Birmingham Mail: “He’s a massive player for us.
“He’s been putting in great performances ever since he came to this club.
