Birmingham City: Nikola Zigic on transfer rumours

NIKOLA Zigic has laughed off suggestions he could be heading for the St Andrew’s exit door in January.

Sporting Lisbon have been eyeing up the giant striker after a spluttering start to his Blues career.

But Zigic said he had no intention of giving up on Blues and his Premier League dream.

Neither do the club have any plans to off-load the Serbia star.

Zigic is set to make only his third league start for Blues when Blackpool visit St Andrew’s tomorrow.

His main diet of substitute appearances over the past few weeks has been noted by the likes of Sporting, who were keen on him in the summer, and reports emerged that they were preparing to swoop.

But Zigic told the Birmingham Mail: “I was aware of that and I found it quite amusing.

“But really I am a Birmingham player. I enjoy being here. I am certainly going to try my best for the club and something I want to do is progress my career here.

“You always get some speculation from other clubs and what have you. But I am a Birmingham player, I signed a contract, I enjoy playing with the boys, we are a good squad and I’m more than happy being here.”

The adjustment and settling-in period has not been without pain for Zigic.
