MICK McCarthy praised his battling troops after watching them lose in the 90th minute at Old Trafford.

Javier Hernandez’s last-minute strike saw United safely progress through to the next round but it was by no means an easy ride for the reigning champions.

Wolves manager McCarthy said that the in-form Mexican striker was the difference as he came on as an 80th-minute substitute to change the course of the game.

After watching him bag a brace against Stoke City on Saturday, McCarthy knew exactly what the ‘Little Pea’ was capable of.

But he felt his side should have may United pay when they had their chances.
