Roger Johnson keen for Birmingham City to step on the gas

Roger Johnson

ROGER Johnson has urged Blues not to let two fine results go to waste.

The centre-half said they should attempt to embark on the kind of sequence that 12 months ago catapulted them up the Premier League table.

Back then, Lee Bowyer scored the only goal in a hard-fought win over Fulham at St Andrew’s – and Blues then reeled off four straight victories.

Bowyer, of course, did likewise in the fabulous rearguard success against Chelsea on Saturday.

“There’s a chance to go on a good run now,” said the centre-half. “We did it around this time last year, we need to do it again.

“We need to pick up as many points as possible, keep clean sheets.

“If we can keep clean sheets it doesn’t matter how many we score. As long as we can be a solid unit and keep them out.

“Going into the game on a good point at Manchester City I said we had a chance against Chelsea. They were under pressure and wouldn’t fancy coming to us.

“I know we had our backs to the wall, but it was a good performance and we defended well.

‘‘Ben Foster was on fire. There were so many saves he made that kept us in the game. That’s why he’s in the England squad.

“We did need the points on Saturday and we have jumped up the league.
