Gabby Agbonlahor rates Robert Pires as biggest name signing in Aston Villa's history

GABBY Agbonlahor believes fans will witness one of the biggest signings in Villa Park history when Robert Pires makes his home debut against Arsenal on Saturday.
Agbonlahor, a boyhood Villa supporter and the current longest serving player, reckons the World Cup winner is the claret and blues’ most prestige capture ever.
And the Brummie striker is convinced that former Gunners playmaker Pires has still got the ability to light up Villa Park – even at the grand old age of 37.
Agbonlahor is still in a state of shock that Gerard Houllier has tempted the French veteran to Villa and insists it is a privilege to train and play alongside the midfielder.
“Everyone is still shocked that Robert has joined Villa,” said Agbonlahor. “He is a player of immense quality.
“Just look at what he’s done in the game. It will be a pleasure to train with him, never mind play with him.
“I don’t think I can think of many bigger names joining the club. I think he is probably one of the biggest. I am looking forward to working with him on a regular basis.
“It’s just a great signing and it will be a pleasure to work with him.”
Pires won two Premier League titles and three FA Cup with the Gunners and was part of Arsene Wenger’s famous ‘Invincibles’ squad.
Villa will be glad to have him on their side on Saturday after regularly being on the receiving end of his brilliance during his Gunners glory days from 2000-06.
