Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish ignores penalties in training

THE drama of Birmingham City's last-gasp victory over Brentford in the last round of the Carling Cup will benefit tonight’s hosts if it comes down to a penalty shoot-out, according to Alex McLeish.

A winner must be decided on the night, and despite the possibility of penalties, there has been no extra training from 12 yards out.

In October, Blues saw off their League One opponents 4-3 on penalties after Kevin Phillips equalised in the 90th minute to take the tie to extra time.

And McLeish feels that is good enough preperation for his side.

“It’s difficult to simulate penalties in a training ground,” he said.
