ROY Hodgson is planning a quality-over-quantity transfer policy for Albion this summer.
The Albion boss is already preparing for the increasingly likely prospect of the Baggies remaining in the Premier League.
Although Albion have already been linked with several players, the reality is that there have been few discussions about specific players up until now.
Albion brought in several players last summer, opting to pay more competitive wages rather than spend money on transfer fees alone.
And Hodgson intends to continue the work started by Roberto Di Matteo by simply adding to his squad on a similar vein - rather than making wholesale changes.
Hodgson told the Birmingham Mail: “I haven’t had a chance to talk to the chairman about it and I don’t want to say too much until I’ve had a chance to talk to him.
“At the moment we have spoken internally among the coaching staff and Dan Ashworth (sporting and technical director) about plans and ideas but if it was up to me I would not want to make any wholesale changes.
“Some changes will be necessary because I’m certain some players will leave us and leave gaps behind that have to be filled.
“But basically speaking I would happier if we get players that will come in and make everyone else sit up and look over their shoulder and worry about their places in the first team to make us stronger, rather than just bringing in players who fill up the numbers.
“I haven’t had chance to talk to the chairman about it yet so we will have to wait and see what his thoughts on the matter are.”
