India batsmen dominate once again

England were facing a daunting run chase in today's rain-hit one-day international against India after being given an adjusted target of 198 in a match reduced to 22 overs.

The tourists, who need to avoid defeat to prevent India securing a series win with three matches remaining, suffered another onslaught by India's free-scoring batsman in a match twice hit by rain interruptions.

Put into bat, India reached a commanding 166 for four in their 22 overs with opener Virender Sehwag smashing 69 off 57 balls including nine fours and three sixes.

But once again it was Yuvraj Singh, who hit centuries in the first two matches, who propelled them to their massive total by hitting 25 off just 11 balls, including three sixes.

England began the game quite promisingly with Sachin Tendulkar, returning to the side after being rested for the opening three matches, being bowled by Stuart Broad immediately after a five-minute delay to repair foot-holes.

But Tendulkar's demise failed to slow India's progress with Gautam Gambhir, relegated to number three by Tendulkar's return, hitting a flurry of boundaries before play was halted for a second time with India well placed on 106 for one after 17 overs.

When play finally resumed two and a half hours later, India knew they only had five overs to propel themselves to a winning total and seal the series and hammered 60 runs before the end of their innings.

Sehwag set the tone by hitting the first ball after the re-start from Samit Patel for six but both he and Gambhir, who hit an entertaining 40 off 37 balls, were caught in the deep by James Anderson attempting to hit Graeme Swann over the top.
