Serena storms through opening set
Serena Williams has one hand on the Australian Open women's trophy after breezing through the opening set of her singles final against Dinara Safina.
Williams dominated from the opening point as Safina's game fell apart and the 27-year-old second seed took full advantage to cruise through 6-0.
Safina had said prior to the match she felt more ready than she had done before her first grand slam final at the French Open last year. But she looked anything but ready for the match on Rod Laver Arena as she hit three double faults and eight unforced errors in a set that lasted just 22 minutes and saw three-time champion Williams barely raise a sweat.
