Aston Villa defender reveals why life at Tottenham isn't as great as it seems

Alan Hutton

ALAN Hutton has lifted the lid on his Tottenham nightmare and revealed that all is not as cosy as it seems at White Hart Lane.

The Villa right-back was frozen out at Spurs under Harry Redknapp and eventually broke free when he moved to the Midlands last month.

Hutton is still fuming about the way he was treated by the former Portsmouth and West Ham boss – and says there are plenty of other players who feel the same.

Reflecting on the unhappiest spell of his career, the Scottish international admitted that he has never been in a working environment where so many players were unhappy in their job.

He also said that during the latter days of his time in north London he:

* Fell out of love with football.

* questioned why he ever moved to England in the first place.

* Couldn’t wait to get a move.

His insists his Spurs hell was the worst period he has ever endured as a footballer because Redknapp:

* Wouldn’t explain why he was dropped from the first team.

* Forced him to train with the club’s kids.

“At Tottenham I was falling out of love with the game,” he said as he prepared to return to London today for Villa’s trip to QPR.

“I played about 20 games in a row last season and then we had a bad performance in the cup at Fulham and after that I didn’t play.

“There was no word, or no reason from the manager and I still don’t know why to this day. I just didn’t play.

“The last straw was when I was made to train with the kids for whatever reason.

“I don’t know why this happened. You’ll probably have to ask Mr Redknapp about that.

“There’s no doubt he’ll have something to say about it but I don’t know.

“I would go in and see him for a chat and sometimes my questions were not getting answered.

“I just don’t think anyone should be treated like that.

“I’m not going to say who, but there were so many people in that squad who felt unwanted. I’ve never experienced that before.

“That just wasn’t for me.
