Birmingham team for Inter-Varsity Challenge

BIRMINGHAM University have named the following team for the Inter-Varsity Challenge indoor athletics match tomorrow against Bath, Brunel, Loughborough and the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham:

Men – 60m: Julian Adeniran, Sunkanmi Olaore. 200m: Olaore, Ollie King. 400m: Chris Smith, Andrew Dean-Young. 800m: Joe Durrant, Nick Howard. 1500m: James Mee, Durrant. 3000m: Chris Gallagher, Nick Earl. 60m hurdles: Scott Henderson. Pole vault: Mike Walker. Long jump: Ollie Armstrong. Triple jump: Jeremy Odametey.

Women – 60m and 200m: Becky Williams, Sophie Lambert. 400m: Steph Allerton. 800m: Kat Bonham. 1500m: Sara Treacy. 3000m: Claire Scanlon. Long jump: Ruth Hatch. Triple jump: Emily Tabb, Sineade Gutzmore.

The new competition has been introduced because all five universities believe the traditional BUSA Indoor Athletics Championships which are being incorporated into the multi-sport BUSA University Games next month, will be too late to be of value to athletes preparing to bid for Olympic success this summer.

UWIC’s European under-23 triple jump champion Gary White and Brunel’s European under-23 100m silver medallist Montell Douglas will use the match to aim for qualifying marks for next month’s World Indoor Championships in Valencia.
