Wolves suffer sixth home loss

WOLVERHAMPTON’S troubled Elite League season continued with a 45-48 defeat by Eastbourne last night.

It was their sixth home defeat of the season and the Monmore men are facing a real struggle to climb out of the bottom two and the relegation play-offs.

And it could have been different as Peter Adams’ men launched a stunning comeback after going into the last four races 10-points down.

Niels Kristian Iversen, the hero of Denmark’s World Cup glory at the weekend, won his tactical ride for double points in Heat 12 and with fellow countryman Nicolai Klindt following him home, Wolves pulled off a massive 8-1 win.

Skipper Freddie Lindgren got the better of his Eastbourne counterpart Scott Nicholls in the next outing and with David Howe third, Wolves were back within a point of the Eagles with two races to go.

However, Kenneth Hansen was excluded in the penultimate race and Eastbourne killed the meeting off with a 5-1.

Wolves go to neighbours Coventry on Friday before facing Ipswich at Monmore Green next Monday.
