Graham Drury salutes Davey Watt cameo

GRAHAM Drury has backed Birmingham’s star guest Davey Watt to inspire Poole to the Elite League title next month.
The Birmingham manager watched Watt top score with 13 in last night’s narrow 48-44 Midland Shield defeat at neighbours Wolverhampton.
Skipper Jason Lyons also played his part with an impressive 12+1 score, including four-points as a tactical ride.
“It was a terrific display from Davey and he’s on top of his game,” said Drury.
“At the end of the meeting I shook his hand and wished him well for the Elite League play-offs with Poole.
“He has the ability to score a lot of points and win the league for Poole. He did a great job for us last night and the result leaves the tie nicely poised.
“We have a provisional date for the return at our place but a lot depends on our Young Shield fixtures and Wolverhampton’s involvement in the relegation race-off.”
Heat 12 was the race of the night. Birmingham’s Eddie Kennett charged between Wolves duo Lewis Bridger and Chris Kerr, only for Kerr to fall on the third lap and bring down James Birkinshaw.
Many fans were surprised the race wasn’t awarded, but delighted when they saw the four laps that followed. Kennett and Bridger diced wheel to wheel, exchanging passes for the full four laps, in a superb heat of speedway.
Lyons’ second victory of the night over Swedish Grand Prix star Freddie Lindgren in Heat 15 meant the BRC Roofing Brummies had actually outscored Wolves over the last 5 races 11-19.
Meanwhile, Birmingham will again be without injured duo Kyle Legault and Jack Roberts for tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Somerset at Perry Barr.
Ben Taylor, who has impressed in recent meetings, will continue at reserve with the rider replacement facility covering Legault’s four programmed rides.
WOLVERHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren 9+1, Lewis Bridger 7+2, Tai Woffinden 7+1, Ludvig Lindgren 7, Nicolai Klindt 6+3, Morten Risager 6, Chris Kerr 6.
BIRMINGHAM: Davey Watt 13, Jason Lyons 12+1, Eddie Kennett 10, Craig Watson 4, Ben Wilson 4, James Birkinshaw 1, Tomasz Piszcz 0.
