Speedway: Chris Vissing could be back as early as next week

GRAHAM Drury has revealed how Birmingham club physio Steve Williams has played a major role in giving key man Claus Vissing a chance of returning to action as early as next week.

Vissing crashed out of the opening meeting of the season against Wolverhampton on March 17 and suffered a broken wrist.

But he’s been having treatment on the injury with Williams, who has invested in some new equipment at his Aldridge base.

“Our club physio Steve Williams is a very good guy to have as part of your team. He helps Belle Vue out too,’’ said Drury.

“He’s based in Aldridge, just down the road from Perry Barr, and he’s invested heavily in this equipment which does the same job as the well-renowned Brian Simpson has done for years.

“It’s great to have Steve on the doorstep like this and Claus has had a couple of sessions there which have certainly helped him in his recovery.

“He’s a key rider to our plans and it’s around six weeks since his crash so he remains hopeful of riding for us next week at Lakeside, although this week’s meetings with Swindon have perhaps come a little too soon.”

Brummies return to action tomorrow in a vital trip to Swindon with the return at Perry Barr on Friday.

Dakota North, of Somerset, is set to make a guest appearance for Vissing in tomorrow’s trip to Wiltshire but Drury is still searching for a rider to deputise on Friday.

James Wright will ride at reserve in both meetings and Ben Barker is available in the main body of the team.
