DANNY King wishes the season was starting now rather than reaching the chequered flag.
Birmingham have completed their quota of home Elite League meetings and have missed out on reaching the play-offs in their first season back in the top level of the sport.
But after winning three of their last five meetings and running Belle Vue and Poole close away from Perry Barr, King says it’s a shame they don’t have more competitive action.
Birmingham’s youngsters face Stoke at Perry Barr on Thursday followed by the Phil Morris Testimonial on September 1 – but after that there are no further fixtures on the calendar.
They head to Lakeside on Friday and King’s Lynn on Wednesday September 7 for a meeting live on Sky, which will complete their Elite League fixtures.
“Things have come together nicely in recent weeks and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves,’’ said King.
“It’s a shame the season is coming to a close in many ways because we all feel we want to ride more meetings, that’s how well things have been going for us.
“I’m really pleased with the way I’ve been riding, I feel as though I’ve found a good set-up with my bikes and last week’s win over Belle Vue was one of my best meetings of the season.”
King has also revealed how the team spirit has come good in recent weeks after issues through the season.
He said: “It’s a lot better, there were issues but things are fine now and we’re just enjoying our speedway. Hopefully we can do well at Lakeside and King’s Lynn and round our Elite League campaign off nicely with as many points as possible.
“We’re certainly going there to give it our best and see what we can achieve.”
