BIRMINGHAM’S Max Maxwell has made winning the next televised Prizefighter his next target.
Middleweights 1 will be held at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday, November 22.
Matchroom Sport chairman Barry Hearn is expecting another night full of drama, knockdowns and thrilling bouts.
“As an entertaining boxing promotion, Prizefighter clearly has no equal and plans are now afoot to licence the format worldwide.
“All eyes are now turned on to Prizefighter Middleweights at the York Hall on November 22 where it will be part of the Sky pay-per-view build up to the Ricky Hatton show from Las Vegas – a huge compliment itself to the Prizefighter Series.
“As a boxing fan each Prizefighter evening is a must and an unmissable event. I’ve enjoyed the first three and can’t wait for November 22.”
Four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final will all take place in one action-packed evening of boxing with each contest lasting a maximum of three rounds.
Bristol’s Danny Butler is the youngest in the event at only 20 years old but has built up an impressive reputation with 13 victories since turning professional in 2006.
Other unbeaten fighters are Martin Murray (Manchester, nine fights) and Joe Rea (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, eight fights) but only one man will be left standing.
As usual, there are a number of heavy punchers with Steve Ede (Gosport, Hampshire), Cello Renda (Peterborough), Maxwell (Birmingham) among the eight. Newport’s Paul Samuels has fought for the IBO Light-Middleweight championship and Danny Thornton (Leeds) has challenged for the EBA super-middleweight Championship.
Odds (according to Sky Bet): 5/2 Murray, 4/1 Butler, Renda, Thornton, 8/1 Rea, 9/1 Maxwell, 10/1 Samuels, 16/1 Ede.
■ DELROY “Sweet D” Mitchell from Birmingham is planning to upset the home hopes of Henry Coyle tonight in Castlebar, Ireland.
The scheduled 10-rounder will be Coyle’s first pro fight on Irish soil having racked up eight KO wins from his nine pro outings Stateside since relocating there 18 months ago.
Mitchell’s trainer Richie Woodhall, however says: “I don’t think it will bother Dee at all. He’s a very mature guy and will take it all in his stride.”
