Squash - Last-eight place joy for Laura

UNIVERSITY of Birmingham's Laura Lengthorn-Massaro booked her place in the women's quarter-finals of the British National Squash Championships, in Manchester.

But there was little cheer for her Birmingham team-mates as both Joey Barrington and Jon Harford crashed out of the men's competition.

Third seed Lengthorn-Massaro made light work of rising Warwickshire prospect Sarah-Jane Perry, who was despatched in just 18 minutes 11-4, 11-3, 11-5.

She was due to face sixth seed Dominique Lloyd-Walter today.

Seventh seed Barrington lost out to ninth seed Daryl Selby in an 89-minute epic 11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6.

Harford, who fought his way through the quailifiers, made an encouraging start against fourth seed Adrian Grant, winning the first game before going down 7-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-3.

However, Energie Fitness Redditch player Jonathan Kemp breezed into the quarter-finals when he crushed qualifier Tom Richards 11-2, 11-6, 11-9 in just 28 minutes.

He now faces top seed James Willstrop.

Edgbaston Priory's Vicky Hynes gave second seed Jenny Duncalf a good run for her money before going down 11-10 (3-1), 9-11, 11-8, 11-4.

Emma Beddoes lost to Ireland's fifth seed Madeline Perry 11-4, 11-4, 11-5.
