North Birmingham League - Joy of six for super Saints

SIX-SHOOTERS St Joseph kept the North Birmingham League title race alive with a 6-0 thrashing of Sixten.

The result stretched St Joseph's unbeaten run to 14 games and sets up an intruiging clash with leaders White Horse this weekend.

But St Joseph did not have matters all their own way and the first half was goalless following a midfield stalemate.

Sixten started the second half looking the brighter side but when Lee Peacock pounced to convert from a David Rennie cross, the floodgates began to open.

Rennie raced through to fire in a second following a fabulous ball from Alan Barmer.

The alert Rennie rifled in a third after Nick McNeal's initial shot had been blocked by the goalkeeper.

Then Michael Porter provided a left-wing cross for McNeal to net a fourth with a fine header.

Barmer started the move for Jamie Herring to hit a fifth before substitute David Barmer scrambled home to complete the scoring after the ball had hit the post and rebounded back out.

White Horse also won by six, beating bottom club Brookvale Social, who are still looking for their first win.

White Horse were stunned when Botterill bagged an equaliser for Brookvale and it wasn't until the second half the leaders took charge.

James Sperin struck twice, as did Gregory, with Fuller and Hughes also hitting home.

Cosmo United can't be ruled out of the title race just yet.

Although 13 points adrift of White Horse, they have games in hand.

They also had an early shock when Holland put next-to-bottom Goodyear Dunlop ahead.

But Cosmo came back to record a 5-1 win, G Wadlow netting twice with further goals from P Wadlow, Grew and L Morden.

Shere Punjab stay third following a 2-0 win over Scruffy Murphys, with Badham and Dhillon bagging the goals.
