Squash - Weakened students lose final match

UNIVERSITY Sport Birmingham were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham in their final Premier Squash League group match last night.

In what was effectively a dead rubber, the students fielded a weakened side as they were already assured of second place.

Joey Barrington beat former England No.1 Simon Parke 3-1, while Laura LengthornMassaro provided the only other win when getting the better of Sarah Kippax 3-1.

The students gave a debut to Steven London, who was beaten 3-1 by Arthur Gaskin, while coach Jonathan Tate also played and lost 3-1 to Jethro Bins with Steve Coppinger being the other casaulty, going down 3-2 to John Rooney.

Energie Fitness Redditch lost their battle for third place when they were beaten 3-2 by a strong esporta Oxford side.

Redditch's Jon Kemp destroyed rival Scott Handley 3-1 in just 19 minutes, while former student Jaymie Haycock provided their other success beating Rob Sutherland 3-2.

The students will now entertain Group B winners Whitehall Security Surrey H and RC in the Premier Squash League play-off semi-finals on April 8, with the return leg on April 10.
