Leaders meet as individual contest begins to hot up

THE two leading contenders for the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League title faced each other, with reigning champion and current leader Trevor Frost taking on Ross Macken.

The result went in favour of Macken to give him 113 points, just four points adrift of Frost with a game in hand.

In his match against Ian McFarlane, Macken hit three 100s and two maximums and McFarlane's figures were 3x100, 140, 136, 125 and 114.

Third-placed Jason Evans has 112 points but has only played 28 games, two less than Frost and one in hand on Macken.

OLTON RBL beat Mackadown Social 7-2 in the quarter-finals of the Sheldon Shield in the Sheldon and District Winter League.

The remaining three games all finished 6-3 with wins for Shard End RBL B, Shard End Social and Lea Hall Nomads beating Hen and Chickens, Shard End RBL A and Glebe Community Association.

HILL Social romped into the final of the Ken Rust Cup in the Four Oaks and District League, hammering Red Lion Arrows 9-0.

The second of the semi-finals was won by Boldmere Sports, 8-1 over Hardy Spicer.

THE Pip Club League have got their new campaign under way and in the curtain-raiser only two of the eight teams in Division One recorded wins.

Early leaders Queens Head won 7-1 at last season's runners-up Dolphin, and Sports Bar Club won 6-2 at the Bull (Polesworth).

In the Second Division, all four games finished 5-3.

In turn Wigginton, Winning Post, North Warwick Cricket Club and Kettlebrook Club beat Two Gates Club, Red Lion, Royal Oak and Three Horse Shoes.

SMETHWICK Labour Club completed their fixtures in Division One of the Harborne and District Winter League with a 5-4 win at Quinton Members Club to secure the runners-up spot behind the Pheasant, who were four points ahead of Smethwick.

Woodpecker have won the Division Two title with 22 points. Quinborne finished second with four points fewer.

In the League Cup there were 5-4 wins for Pheasant and Quinton Members Club against Midland Red and Bartley Green FC. In the Plate, Quinborne beat Hillyfields 6-3 and Stonehouse were 5-4 victors over Pheasant Flights.
