Tennis Volleys - with Nick Pullen

THERE’S no stopping ageless Ken Buswell at the moment.

The Streetly and Edgbaston Priory veteran added yet another title to his extensive collection by claiming the National Over-75’s men’s hardcourt title at Bournemouth.

Buswell beat Jack Baxter from Hertfordshire 7-6, 6-3 to lift the crown.

He was also beaten finalist in the men’s doubles when partnering Tony Klima of Surrey.

They lost out to the Kent combination of John Draper and Paul Drane, who was previously with Warwickshire.

Buswell had already claimed the Over-75’s indoor title in February.

Now he has his sights set on a grand slam when he bids to take the grass-court title at Wimbledon in August.

As a result of his success, Buswell has been chosen to captain Great Britain’s Over-75’s at the World Team Championships, which take place in Turkey in October.

He said: “To captain Great Britain, at any age, is a great privilege.”

THE world-famous Nick Bollettieri Clinics have returned to Streetly Tennis Club.

Following last year’s first-time success, the clinics are back for a six-day stay.

They are taking place at Streetly’s Park View Road headquarters in Sutton Coldfield until Friday.

The clinics are open to players aged between 10 and 16 with an LTA rating of 9.1 or better.

And there’s a huge incentive for any players attending – as each day one outstanding student will be invited back on the last day for a free session.

The best two students will then be chosen for a trip to the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida.

One of Bollettieri’s principal coaches, Perci Meizi, is taking charge of the clinics, along with Streetly head coach Richard Macey.

Anyone interested in attending the clinics should contact Dave Macey on 0121-308-3848 or visit the club’s website at www.streetlytennisclub.co.uk

SOLIHULL Arden, fresh from their success in the Mini Tennis Classic Finals at the recent DFS tournament, are on the look-out for new recruits.

They will be running tennis camps during the summer holidays for players of all ages and standards.

Anyone interested should contact Alison Isaacs on 01564-771590.
